Pedestrian Dies in Pasadena Ave. Traffic Accident

A 72 year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a van traveling on Pasadena Avenue in South Pasadena shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday morning, police say.

The victim was walking north in the crosswalk at Arroyo Drive when the van, driven by a 77 year-old Los Angeles man, hit him, South Pasadena police report.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene a short while later. Police have not identified either the victim or the driver.

“The investigation is continuing and we anticipate filing vehicular manslaughter charges,” South Pasadena Chief of Police Joseph Payne said in a written statement.

Police say there were are no signs of intoxication of the driver, and blood toxicology is pending.
