The University of Utah Utes, back to the Rose Bowl Game next Monday after losing  48-45 to Ohio State in their first-ever appearance last year at the ‘Grand Daddy of ‘Em All,’ will be painting it red as far as their uniforms go.

The Utes wore throwback all-white uniforms at their Rose Bowl debut in 2022. This time, they’re wearing their red throwback jersey and helmet, and white pants.

Penn State, meanwhile, has announced they’re going all white – white helmet, white jersey, white pants and white shoes.

“All dressed in white for the 109th Rose Bowl Game,” Penn State Football announced on Twitter, on which they also posted a photo of a player wearing the jersey and helmet. The jersey showed a distinctive Rose Bowl logo on the right upper chest.

Utah also posted photos of Cameron Rising wearing the red jersey on Utah Athletics’ Twitter page, and a video that showed Rising and three other Utah players donning the former all-white uniform, and then transforming into the red jersey-white pants-red helmet attire. The video is headlined “PAINT IT RED.”

Utah is also encouraging all its fans to wear red to the Rose Bowl next Monday.

Kick-off for the 109th Rose Bowl Game is at 2 p.m.

Heading Utah football next Monday is head coach Kyle Whittingham, the longest-tenured coach in the Pac-12 and the second-longest tenured coach at the same school in the NCAA FBS. Whittingham is 154-73 overall at Utah, becoming the all-time wins leader at Utah in 2021. He passed Ike Armstrong (141-55-15 in 211 games) with Utah’s historic win over No. 3 Oregon on Nov. 20, 2021. He has coached in 353 games at Utah, 11 seasons as an assistant, and 227 as the head coach.

Whittingham has contributed to more victories than any coach in program history (239), including his 11 seasons as an assistant coach (1994-2004). His 154 career wins as the head coach of the Utes ranks third among active FBS coaches at the same school and ranks 14th among active FBS coaches overall.

James Franklin, a 27-year football coaching veteran, is heading the Penn State Nittany Lions next Monday. He was appointed Penn State’s 16th head football coach on January 11, 2014, and enters his 12th season as a collegiate head coach. Franklin’s career head coaching record is 91-49 and is one of only five current FBS coaches to lead his team to a bowl game in each of his first nine seasons as a head coach.

Under Franklin’s direction, Penn State has finished in the top 12 of the final College Football Playoff rankings in four of the last six seasons, has earned berths in three New Year’s Six bowl games with two wins and won the 2016 Big Ten Championship. Franklin has also guided the Lions to an 86 percent graduation success rate, a perfect single-year 1,000 APR for the 2018-2019 school year and record-breaking performances in the classroom.

Incidentally, Utah’s iconic Rose Bowl helmet will be displayed permanently in the 1922 Locker Room Museum at the Rose Bowl Stadium, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation announced on Twitter in June.

The 1922 Locker Room Museum, located in tunnel 15A of the stadium, houses some of the most iconic helmets and moments from the Rose Bowl’s illustrious history. The museum is housed in a locker room that athletes actually used for the first six years of the stadium’s 100-year run.
