Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena Announce Slate of Local Endorsements for the November 8 General Election

L-R: Juan Pablo Alban, Patrice Marshall McKenzie, Pat Amsbry

Planned Parenthood Advocates Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley announced endorsements for two school board candidates on Monday.

The advocacy and political organization working to protect and expand access to reproductive health care and sex education throughout the San Gabriel Valley is endorsing Juan Pablo Alban in the District 7 race, Patrice Marshall McKenzie in District 5 and Pat Amsbry in District 3 in the local school board races.

“PP Advocates is proud to endorse these qualified candidates who share Planned Parenthood’s values and priorities. During this time of great uncertainty about the future of sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, it is vital that our elected representatives at the local level do everything in their power to keep all of our local communities healthy and safe,” said Juliana Serrano, Executive Director of PP Advocates.

The group also announced candidates running for city council and school board seats in Alhambra and Monterey Park.

This past June, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and took away the Constitutional right to abortion from millions of people. In the months that followed, 16 states have enacted total or near total bans on abortion, and that number continues to rise.

“It is imperative that leaders at every level of government are committed to ensuring that the communities they serve have unfettered access to abortion care and that they prioritize sex education in schools,” PP Advocates said in a prepared statement. “All of the candidates on this slate are ready to champion policies that support sexual and reproductive health care and uphold every person’s right to make decisions about their own body and future.”

Other candidates endorsed by PP Advocates for the November 8 General Election, include:
• Ari Arambula, Alhambra City Council, District 1
• Thomas Wong, Monterey Park City Council, District 1
• Vinh Ngo, Monterey Park City Council, District 5

PP Advocates also endorses Ballot Measure, Proposition 1, which will amend the California State Constitution to state explicitly that Californians have the fundamental right to access abortion and contraception. Now is the time to enshrine the fundamental right to abortion. PP Advocates urges its supporters to vote YES on Prop. 1.
