Planned Parenthood’s Political Arm Endorses Supervisor Barger for Re-election as LA County Supervisor

Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles County Action Fund (PPAP) has endorsed Supervisor Kathryn Barger for her 2024 re-election bid for the Fifth District seat, representing Pasadena.

Celinda M. Vázquez, executive director of the Planned Parenthood advocacy group, said Barger has remained committed to reproductive health care and access to safe and legal abortion, according to a press release from Barger’s campaign.

“She has championed reproductive health care and health care services for all communities, and has the experience and leadership to bring necessary change to our county to expand access for care, no matter what,” Vázquez said.

On its website, PPAP says among their activities is lobbying on behalf of women’s health. The group said they also engage in legislative and electoral activity, including advocacy, education campaigns, grassroots organizing, and electioneering.

Barger, who has served as a county supervisor since 2016, said she was honored to have the organization’s support.

“For decades, Planned Parenthood has championed expanding access to health care,” Barger said. “I am proud to continue to lock arms with them and work on behalf of our communities.” 

The endorsement from Planned Parenthood adds to Barger’s growing list of supporters from various sectors, including business, labor and community groups. She also recently received endorsements from the Central City Association of Los Angeles PAC and Teamsters Joint Council 42.

Barger represents Los Angeles County’s 5th Supervisorial District, which covers Pasadena and 21 other cities and 70 unincorporated communities in the northern, eastern and western parts of Los Angeles.
