A registered sex offender has been arrested in connection with the attempted video recording of a juvenile in a bathroom stall at a Pasadena department store, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

On March 18 officers responded to a call reporting suspicious circumstances at a department store in the 400 block of South Lake Avenue. During their investigation, the officers discovered that a man had attempted to video a juvenile in an adjacent bathroom stall using his cellular phone.

The juvenile victim caught the suspect in the act and the man fled.

Following up with key information collected by the patrol officers, detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) conducted an operation in the early morning of March 19 that led to the arrest of the suspect outside his residence in Montebello.

SVU detectives recovered digital devices containing thousands of images and videos of child pornography, police said in a statement.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Montebello resident David Edward Miranda, was arrested and charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with Possession of Child Pornography and Invasion of Privacy. His bail was set at $80,000, and a parole hold was also placed on him, authorities said.
