[UPDATED] A person has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a teenage boy in Pasadena Tuesday afternoon.

The 15-year-old boy was riding as a passenger in a car on Eldora Road when he was shot in the head and critically injured shortly before 3 p.m.

Interim Police Chief Cheryl Moody told City Councilmembers during Wednesday’s Public Safety meeting about the arrest of a suspect.

Police spokesperson Lt. William Grisafe told Pasadena Now the arrest was made Wednesday morning but said police would not release any further information at this time.

The shooting victim remains in critical condition in a local hospital.

According to Moody, the teenage victim was shot in the head from a moving vehicle. She said it remains unclear what prompted the shooting incident.

Moody said the police are looking into whether or not the recent shooting incident is related to the shooting last Sunday at Villa Parke.

“There was an incident that occurred on Sunday at Villa Parke and we’re not sure if this is related or not but we’re going to provide extra service within that area from Los Robles over to Fair Oaks,” Moody said.

“Because we’re not exactly sure what the motives were but we’re going to have high visibility in that area for now,” she added.

“While I know it’s only someone in custody, I’m glad that we have someone in custody,” Mayor Victor Gordo remarked after Moody gave updates.

Gordo expressed hopes that the officials have in custody “the right person” to solve the case.

Police on Tuesday were alerted to the shooting by a call from a Pasadena Fire Department paramedic who said that while on an unrelated call in the 1600 block of North Los Robles Avenue first responders were flagged down by the driver of a car who asked for help for his wounded friend.

The driver told the firefighters and paramedics his friend had been shot.
The paramedics immediately rendered aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital in “very critical” condition.

At 3:06 p.m., police received a call about gunfire in the 500 block of Eldora Road. The caller reported hearing one shot along with screeching tires. Officers responded and found evidence of a shooting.

A preliminary investigation concluded that the teenage boy was shot on Eldora Road and the driver of the car he was in then fled north on Los Robles, encountering the firefighters by chance.

The victim is a Pasadena resident. The driver, a 20-year-old West Covina resident, was not injured, police said.

Pasadena Detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Councilmember Jessica Rivas and the Pasadena Police Department will provide a community update on the shootings at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
