A car reportedly speeding at nearly 100 mph down Orange Grove Avenue just north of the Pasadena Freeway crashed into a garage early Saturday morning, killing one of the three people inside the vehicle.

The passenger in the backseat, identified as 21-year-old North Hills resident Oscar Bejarano Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to South Pasadena police, a silver 2020 Infiniti driven by 21-year-old Sun Valley resident David Silva was speeding southbound and approaching Oliver Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday when the car slammed into a residential garage in the 300 block of Orange Grove Avenue.

“The impact was significant enough to push a vehicle parked in the garage through the back wall,” said Sgt. Craig Phillips of the South Pasadena Police Department.

Nobody in the home was injured, but both Silva and the front-seat passenger were hospitalized with moderate to severe injuries.

The car struck several trees, signposts and bushes before slamming into the garage.

Police closed the north and southbound lanes of Orange Grove Avenue, between Prospect Drive and Columbia Street, for over seven hours while the investigation continued. (Orange Grove is identified as a Boulevard in Pasadena, as an Avenue in South Pasadena.)

South Pasadena police urged anyone with information about the crash to call them at 626-403-7270. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
