Pasadena police on heightened patrol duty following a Saturday shooting that left two men critically wounded took an assault rifle off the streets Sunday during a traffic stop.

Lt. Pete Hettema said the officers pulled over a silver Mercedes occupied by four men about 2:39 p.m. near the intersection of W. Tremont Street and Navarro Avenue after seeing the car run a stop sign.

The driver, 20-year-old William Polk of Pasadena, did not have a valid driver’s license, according to Hettema.

The men were asked to get out of the vehicle so it could be towed.

In the process of inventorying items in the car before towing it, an officer found a stolen assault rifle, Hettema said.

“They all claim they had no idea it was in there,” Hettema said. “All suspects were arrested for possession of assault rifle.”

In addition to Polk, Pasadena 19-year-olds Brian Bost and Brian Morones, and 18-year-old Trayveonte Nichols, were also arrested.

On Saturday, two men were critically wounded when a car pulled up behind them while they were stopped on Lake Avenue. Shots rang out from the second vehicle. Police say they do not think the shooting was random.
