Police have announced the name of the man they say opened fire on the driver of vehicle with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol near the Westin Hotel on North Robles Avenue at around 10 a.m. on April 26.

The suspect, Ruben Wardlaw, 44, a Glendora resident, allegedly fired eight rounds at the passing vehicle, possibly after some type of altercation.

The victim fled in his car. Police believe the man driving the vehicle was almost certainly uninjured, based on a survey of shooting victims received by local hospitals in the hours after the incident.

Police were called to the scene at 10:10 a.m. The suspect was located a short time and arrested later near Los Robles Avenue. Police found eight expended cartridge cases indicating a shooting had occurred.

The firearm was recovered at the crime scene, police said.

Wardlaw was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm.

Police don’t believe any other people were involved in the shooting.

A police spokesperson said surveillance footage captured at the time of the incident was recovered; the footage depicted the suspect but not the actual shooting.
