Police: Gang Associate Wounded, Innocent Bystander Killed in Christmas Shooting

Pasadena police said Wednesday afternoon that a Christmas day shooting in a neighborhood near John Muir High School wounded an “identified … gang associate” but killed an innocent bystander who was a Sheriff’s Dept. employee and father of two.

The incident began shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Pasadena Police Officers responded to Newport Avenue and Wyoming Street regarding 911 calls of gunfire in the area, police said.

Upon arrival police officers discovered that a vehicle had collided into a light-pole. The driver, later identified as Damion Taylor, 24, of Pasadena, had sustained a gunshot wound.

Officers located a second gunshot victim lying on the sidewalk, north of the collision site. The second victim (a pedestrian) was identified as Victor J. McClinton, 49, also of Pasadena.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics responded and transported both victims to a local area hospital.

McClinton was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities said Damion Taylor, who police say has been identified as a gang associate, remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

There does not appear to be any connection between Taylor and McClinton except that they were in the same general area when the shooting occurred, police said.
