A Pasadena police negotiator talked a distraught young woman in her twenties from jumping off the Lake Ave. overpass of the 210 Foothill Freeway in an hour-long conversation that started about 4:15 Friday morning.
Sergeant Paul Carpenter said that Officer Marko Tudic was able to convince the young woman to come back over the fence to safety from her perch on the east side of the bridge over the eastbound lanes.
Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol closed all lanes and diverted traffic.
The incident concluded around 5:30 a.m., Carpenter said. The woman was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
The 210 Freeway was fully reopened at that time, Carpenter said.
