Political Gumbo: Show McDonald Some Respect

Published on Friday, June 16, 2023 | 5:05 am

Brian McDonald is the longest-serving PUSD Superintendent in recent history.

The past three superintendents — Percy Clark, Edwin Diaz and Jon Gundry — served 12 years combined.

If you count McDonald’s time as Interim Superintendent, he has done nine years in the position.

For nine years, McDonald has done his part as enrollment declined, due in part to increased housing costs forcing more families east to the Inland Empire where a family can still buy a house, and shrinking families.

But sadly, the man who guided the district through the pandemic and worked with the City to pass I and J — which brings in millions of dollars a year to the district — will leave the district on June 30.

Either way, McDonald deserves a send off by the district.

And yet, so far nothing is scheduled.

Surely, the Pasadena Education Foundation (PEF) or the Pasadena Education Network (PEN) or any number of our local nonprofits that support education, that means all of them, are interested in sending McDonald out the right way.

Give the man his due.

Respect Brian, thank you for working hard to educate Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre kids.
