Political Gumbo: Ventilators, the Loop, Common Sense and the County Count

Random thoughts on the COVID-19 pandemic and the March 3 election count

Had to take a break on Monday, because even too much gumbo is not a good thing.

As of Tuesday, 170 people in Pasadena have been tested for the virus.

Things that make no sense to me: After the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington DC on Sept. 11, if memory serves, the talk was preparation for a bio attack or even a dirty bomb. Yet, as a nation we are still woefully short on ventilators. This is a massive fail.

Some people just are not getting it: We’re not on adult summer vacation. Hanging out at the Rose Bowl loop without practicing social distancing is not just irresponsible, it’s idiotic. How hard is it to stay the hell home so we can stop the spread of the virus? It doesn’t matter if you want to believe it or not, the pandemic is happening.

Now that’s stupid: Gun stores are essential businesses? Yeah, because you have to go out and get a gun during the pandemic.

Apparently common sense is non-essential and has been shut down. Seriously, Newsom should have just shut down the gun stores.

Some COVID-19 observations:

What will the antivaxxers do after a COVID-19 vaccine is developed? If they have any sense, they will roll up their sleeves like everybody else.

Remember when I said there will be a baby boom in nine months? That means in 2033, we will see the rise of the Quaran-teens. I’ll be just about 70, and telling them to stay off my boomer lawn. I didn’t come up with that one, but it’s still a cool observation.

You don’t like Trump, so why are you taking the money: Because it’s money, and I’m still not voting for him.

Shout out to the County: It took the county 24 days to count the ballots from the March 3 election. It took the state of Florida about 34 days to count the ballots in the Bush-Gore presidential debacle, and Florida had less technology and in some places they counted by hand.

More on the count: District 5 Councilman Victor Gordo and Mayor Terry Tornek will meet again in November. Felicia Williams will join Tyron Hampton, Gene Masuda, Steve Madison and the winner in the mayor’s race when they are sworn in in December.

That crew, along with John Kennedy, Andy Wilson and the District 5 Councilman will continue to lead the city’s economic post-pandemic recovery.
