GTM Sportswear and the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) recently announced Michelle Miller as the GTM Sportswear Athlete of the Month for February 2011. Miller was recognized at a press conference at Polytechnic High School on May 23. She received GTM merchandise and will be featured in various GTM Sportswear marketing materials.

Miller, a junior basketball player, scored a season-high 47 points with 10 rebounds and six steals in a win over La Cañada Flintridge Prep School and had 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in a victory against arch-rival Palos Verdes Chadwick High. The 5-foot-10 star also earned ESPN RISE Cal-Hi Sports State Athlete of the Week honors.

Michelle Miller, who leads the state of California in scoring with a 32.3 average, has scored 40 or more points three times this season and 39 points in two other games. She also averages 13.4 rebounds per game. The three-sport athlete was named All-Southern Section as a setter in volleyball and made the Southern Section swimming meet in the 50-yard freestyle – without competing in the off-season in either sport. Also an outstanding student, Miller takes five AP courses and holds a 4.9 grade-point average (on a 5.0 scale).

“The National High School Coaches Association is proud to recognize Michele for her outstanding performances, not only on the field, but in the school and community as well,” said Bobby Ferraro, Jr., Executive Director of the National High School Coaches Association. “It’s truly an honor to recognize someone of this stature.”

“GTM Sportswear is honored to be partnering with the NHSCA in recognizing outstanding student athletes such as Michele. She has really shown her commitment and dedication to her sport and is a great example for the youth in our communities,” said Nikki Miller, Vice President of Marketing for GTM Sportswear. “We are very proud of Michele and her outstanding achievements.”

The NHSCA and GTM Sportswear has honored one deserving high school athlete each month, September 2010 through April 2011. NHSCA Coaches nominated commendable athletes through the NHSCA website. Each month six finalists were selected by the NHSCA and presented via ballot to a group of high school sports writers, high school coaches, NHSCA and GTM representatives to choose the winner. Out of the eight recipients of the monthly award, one athlete will be chosen as the GTM Sportswear Athlete of the Year.

Founded in 1989, the National High School Coaches Association is a not-for-profit 501c3 service organization providing support and leadership programs for the nation’s 500,000 high school coaches and 10 million high school athletes.
