A Pasadena Police Department officer was threatened and sustained abrasions while responding to a domestic dispute Wednesday, but was able to use non-lethal force to take the suspect into custody, police said.
At about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, a PPD officer went to a residence located in the 300 block of Wyoming Street, said PPD Lt. Chris Russ in a telephone interview. When he arrived there was an ongoing domestic dispute between a man, later identified as Fernando Perez, 27, of Pasadena, and his ex-wife, Russ said.
The officer was speaking to Perez’ ex-wife when Perez allegedly waved a six-inch long piece of broken mirror at both the police officer and his ex-wife while using profanity, Russ said. Perez then advanced toward the officer, who was able to stop him by using a taser. Perez was then arrested.
“This is a good example of how the use of non-lethal force can prevent injury to both officer and suspect,” Russ said. “This situation was able to end without anyone being injured and the suspect being placed into custody.”
