Contractors have constructed mock-ups of three different potential styles of barriers to help prevent suicides from the Colorado Street Bridge, and the public is invited to inspect them and offer their opinions in a survey, according to city officials.
The displays have been built at each end of the iconic bridge, “to provide different vantage points for both ‘on the bridge’ and ‘of the bridge’ visualization,” city officials said in a written statement.
The Pasadena Public Safety Commission reviewed potential options on Feb. 3 and selected three preferred options.
“As with the commissioners, the consensus amongst the Committee members was that full-scale mock-ups should be constructed of the preferred designs for better visualization and evaluation by the public before a specific design concept could be chosen,” according to the city statement.
Those mock-ups have been completed and are available for the public to view.
“Due to COVID-19 regulations, the City requests that the public avoid gathering in groups on the bridge to view these mock-ups,” the statement added. “Safely driving by and viewing these installations from your vehicle is encouraged to maintain social distancing requirements.”
A public opinion survey to inform city officials can be filled out online at surveymonkey.com/r/CGJL5J8.
More information on the project is available online at cityofpasadena.net/public-works/engineering-and-construction/construction/colorado-street-bridge. Future public meeting dates will be announced on the website once scheduled.
