The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) voted unanimously Thursday to ratify its contracts with the California School Employee Association (CSEA) and Teamsters Local 911 for the 2020-2021 school year.
The District agreed to pay members of the California School Employee Association an off-schedule increase of 3% for the school year 2020-2021 effective July 1, 2020, tied to base salary (including longevity service increments, salary ratios, and stipends), for unit members employed as of April 1, 2021.
For school year, 2021-2022 the District increased pay to all unit members by 2%, effective from July 1, 2021.
The District and CSEA agree for the school year 2021-2022 there will be no me-too agreements regarding salary increases.
[A “me too” agreement applies when an entity negotiates something of value greater than what another union has already settled for, and the unions who have already settled will automatically get the greater value of the present contract with the other union. By mutual agreement, such an arrangement will not apply.]
The agreed increases will cost the District an additional $1.34 million dollars in its first year.
The PUSD contract with Teamsters Local 911 calls for a 3% off-schedule payment for the 2020-2021 school year, tied to base salary—also including longevity service increments, salary ratios and stipends—for unit members employed as of April 1, 2021.
The approved Teamsters contract had already been built into the current budget, according to a PU SD staff report. The increase are estimated to cost the District $375,443 in its first year.
