PUSD Schools Closure Extended to May 5

[Updated]  Pasadena Unified schools will remain closed past the originally-planned three-week closure and not reopen until May 5.

The decision came late Friday, following a recommendation by County Superintendent of Schools Debra Duardo that campuses remain off-limits an additional month, and following the issuance of the “Stay Safer” orders by the State, County and City.

Pasadena Unified’s schools were closed on March 16. At that time, Superintendent Brian McDonald said deep cleaning of all school sites would take place and students would return to class on April 6, barring any further developments.

Today, McDonald extended the closure.

“While we put into effect the public health order to Stay Home and extend the likely date of return,  I want to assure our students, families, and staff that PUSD will continue to provide the vital services such as distance learning, student meals, and social-emotion support for our students — no matter how long it takes,” McDonald said.

McDonald also said pending the approval of a federal waiver, it is likely that all California school districts will be ordered to cancel all required assessments for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.  He noted that the College Board has canceled the May 2, 2020, SAT and SAT Subject Test administration.

He also announced that to comply with the State’s “Stay Home” and Los Angeles County “Safer at Home” public health orders, the PUSD Educational Center offices were closed Friday, with no known reopening date.

McDonald also listed  a number of other important developments and notices:
