PUSD Supt Jon Gundry Calls for ‘Engaging’ Methods of Teaching

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Jon Gundry during his speech at the State of the Schools Thursday night emphasized the need for more engaging and collaborative methods of teaching that will stimulate students to learn more and become more adept in the 21st century.

As educators, Gundry said that one of the main functions the job is “to prepare students for a world we hardly understand.”  This can only be done by adapting to changes in technology.

“We cannot continue to have things done the way they were done in the last 100 years. We have to teach and prepare our kids to face the 21st century. Our world is changing fast because of computers and advancement in technology,” he said.

Gundry noted that students are engaging in more technology outside the school so teachers must also learn to create a synergy between classroom teaching and the actual world.

“It will make jobs easier for teachers if they learn how to do this and it will also help them develop better relationship with the kids,” Gundry added.
