The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education will hold a public hearing via teleconference on Thursday, April 23, as part of the Board’s monthly meeting, to discuss the District’s solar energy project.

According to the board agenda, the board is considering the possibility of entering into an energy services contract with California PV Energy 3, LLC as assignee of PFMG Solar PUSD, LLC, for the solar energy project at PUSD, which mainly involves installation, maintenance and operation of solar power generation facilities on car and shade structures at a number of PUSD campuses.

The project is in compliance with the California Government Code Section 4217, which encourages local governments and public agencies to develop clean energy systems.

A draft resolution by the board shows the solar power systems to be installed at PUSD schools would be able to generate an estimated 4,960,935 kWh of electrical energy annually, translating to almost $4.8 million in energy savings for PUSD over the estimated 25-year life of the proposed agreements.

Thursday’s Board meeting will also include discussions about the current state of PUSD schools in relation to the coronavirus pandemic, distance learning systems, grading policies and graduation requirements, and funding and expenditure matters, the agenda showed.

The Board will also act on a number of disbursement reports and purchase orders awaiting ratification, proposed consultant contracts, and facilities maintenance contracts for PUSD schools.

The public hearing is set for 3 p.m. Thursday and the public can participate via Google Hangout, which can be accessed by calling (931) 805-1067 and using the access code 143 170 943#.

Anyone who wishes to make a public comment should email comments to superintendent@pusd.us. The email must be received prior to the close of the public hearing to be considered, a notice from PUSD Superintendent Brian McDonald said.

The meeting begins with a closed session at 1 p.m. and proceeds to the public session at 3 p.m. Meetings of the PUSD Board of Education are held at the PUSD Education Center at 351 S. Hudson Ave. in Pasadena.
