Local Latino community activist Raul Borbón succumbed to colon cancer Tuesday, November 29, reportedly in the presence of family and friends.

Borbón had a long history of community involvement with Pasadena-based empowerment organization Centro de Educación Popular.

In making the announcement of Borbón’s passing, City of Pasadena District 5 Field Representative Vannia De La Cuba said she was overwhelmed by sadness.

” His presence was filled with kindness, generosity, humility, and commitment,” De La Cuba wrote. “Raul worked to ensure that everyone in our city had the ability to live a life of dignity, free from discrimination and oppression, and full of opportunity.”

A celebration of Borbón’s life will held this Friday, December 2 at 6 p.m. at the Villa Parke Community Center, 363 E. Villa St., Pasadena.
