Red Cross to Conduct Local Blood Drive Thursday

The Red Cross will conduct a Pasadena-area community blood drive at Maranatha High School, 169 S. St. John Ave., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 in the student center’s main dining area.

“Donating blood products is essential to community health, and the need for blood products is continual,” according to a release by the Red Cross. “As part of our nation’s critical infrastructure, healthy individuals can still donate in areas that have issued shelter-in-place declarations. The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control, and volunteer donors are the only source of blood for those in need.”

The U.S. Surgeon General is worried about a blood shortage.

“There is no known end-date in this fight against the Covid-19 virus, which is why the Red Cross needs the help of blood and platelet donors as well as blood drive hosts,” the release states. “In times of crisis, the Red Cross is fortunate to witness the best of humanity as people roll up a sleeve to help those in need and keep hospital shelves stocked during this uncertain time.”
