Rep. Chu Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act

Published on Thursday, May 14, 2015 | 1:51 pm

Today, Rep. Judy Chu voted in support of H.R. 1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act. The bill will allow Congress to review any agreement with Iran on their nuclear program before the President can remove sanctions. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

“The best and only way to end the threat of a nuclear Iran is diplomacy. I have been encouraged by the tireless efforts and progress made by Secretary Kerry and his team and am committed to seeing the talks through to their conclusion without interference. Once a deal is reached, however, it is important for Congress to have an opportunity to approve or disapprove of it, and that is what this bill will provide. I am glad that the troublesome Senate agreements intended to derail the negotiations were defeated, allowing for today’s clean bill. I look forward to seeing the final agreement.”

H.R. 1191 was passed by a vote of 400-25. The same bill, S.615, was passed by the Senate on May 7th by a vote of 98-1
