Republik Coffee Lounge Wants to Sell Alcohol, Too

Republik Coffee Lounge is seeking permission from the city of Pasadena to sell alcoholic beverages from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., daily.

The spot that’s also called Republik Cafe, at 854 E. Green Street, serves handcrafted food and coffee. It’s asking for a Conditional Use Permit to add the on-site sale and consumption of beer and wine. The CUP application will go before the City’s Hearing Officer on Wednesday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m.

Republik is in the CD-5 (Central District Specific Plan, Lake Avenue sub-district) zoning district, where city regulations require a CUP for the on-site sale and consumption of alcohol.

The floor plan owners submitted shows they’re installing a walk-in refrigerator and a locked cabinet to store beer and wine.

Republik occupies 1,500 square feet of ground-floor space in a six-story mixed-use building on the south side of East Green Street, between South Hudson and South Lake avenues.

A staff report by the Planning and Community Development Department showed Republik plans to offer beer and wine to patrons dining inside the restaurant and within the outdoor patio. All food, drink, and alcohol beverage orders will be placed at the existing food order counter and will be called by order number for pick-up by the customer.

The outdoor area is delineated by a 4-foot high wrought iron fence and maintains a couple of tables and chairs for outdoor dining.
