Retraction and Apology

Published on Friday, July 31, 2020 | 7:11 am

On July 12, 2019, Pasadena Now published an article about the arrests of five people suspected of committing elder financial abuse.

In that article, Pasadena Now identified Billy Burton as being one of those suspects and improperly stated that Mr. Burton had participated in order to defraud the victim of money.

While it is true Mr. Burton was arrested, the court found there was not sufficient evidence to prosecute him and the criminal charges against him in this matter were dismissed.

The remaining three suspects arrested at the same place and time as Mr. Burton all pleaded guilty to a least one count and were convicted.

Pasadena Now unequivocally retracts our original statement in regards to Mr. Burton, and any other statements within the original article which may have led readers to think that Mr. Burton was a member of an elder financial abuse crew.

We also apologize to Mr. Burton.

We regret this error. The article has been removed from public access.
