Rose Bowl Institute Continues Campaign to Get Out The Vote

The Rose Bowl Institute is continuing its month-long campaign of public service announcements to encourage voting in the current election cycle. 

The nonpartisan Voices for Voting campaign utilizes diverse celebrities and supporters of the institute’s mission to explain the importance of exercising one’s right to vote.

“The only way to effect change is to use that voice,” adds Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Other voices in these short video messages include local NBC4 reporter and former Pasadena resident Beverly White, Pasadena native Sophia Bush, women’s soccer legend Brandi Chastain, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris, UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond, actress-activist and journalists Jessica Yellen and Alayna Treene, NFL female coaching pioneer Jen Welter, basketball Hall of Famer Ann Meyers Drysdale, and RISE CEO Diahann Billings-Buford.

The videos, which reside on the Rose Bowl Institute website, will also be available for broadcast or streaming on other media platforms.

Among the outlets for the videos are on institute social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Linked-In.

“Among the nationwide partnerships for Voices for Voting, none is more important or visible than #VoteCauseWeCan in Pasadena, www.cityofpasadena.net/vote-cause-we-can,” pointed out Darryl Dunn, CEO of the Rose Bowl Operating Co. 

The Rose Bowl Institute, which has a national footprint, is also collaborating with RISE, the Ivy League, and Girl Scouts Los Angeles.

The Rose Bowl Institute, an arm of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, champions sportsmanship and aims to “leverage the power of sports to unite people everywhere.” 

The Institute’s pillars are sportsmanship, leadership and citizenship. It brings sports values such as integrity, fair play, respect for the opponent, and teamwork to the civic sphere, in this case by encouraging everyone of voting age, regardless of background, demographic, or political persuasion, to vote.

“The Institute marries sports values and civics,” said Institute President Charlie Firestone. “Voting is suiting up for the game, and only the first of many ways citizens can actively participate in their democracy.”
