The Rose Bowl in Pasadena is playing host to yet another football bowl games this month, this one the 10th edition of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) Collegiate Bowl on Saturday, January 29, reset from the original schedule of a week earlier.

The game pits the National team against the American team, which includes draft-eligible seniors from the top college teams nationwide.

In celebration of the upcoming milestone game, the Collegiate Bowl is unveiling its 10th anniversary team featuring 30 legends who have competed in the showcase.

Among some of the prominent Southern California players invited to the game are UCLA safety Quentin Lake, who’s  returning to the Rose Bowl for one final game in a Bruins helmet, and USC offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie, who announced earlier this month that he would forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2022 NFL Draft.

Last November, the NFL Players Association announced they had selected Jeff Fisher to coach the American team, and Marvin Lewis for the National team for the 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

This will be Lewis’s second consecutive appearance as head coach in the game after he led the National Team to a 30-20 victory in the 2020 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. For Fisher, this marks a return to Pasadena after playing in and winning the 1978 and 1979 Rose Bowls as a USC team member.

The NFLPA started the Collegiate Bowl in order to give prospective players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. Every year, nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are in attendance to watch live practices, conduct player interviews and review tape.

Held annually in January, players are predominantly from teams within the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

The first six NFLPA Collegiate games were played at the Home Depot Center in Carson, later renamed the StubHub Center. Since 2018, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl has been played at the Rose Bowl. Last year, the game had to go virtual because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The 2022 game will be televised on the NFL Network.
