Rose Parade Disrupted by Pro-Palestinian Demonstrators

Published on Monday, January 1, 2024 | 10:09 am

The Rose Parade was briefly disrupted by about 50 Pro-Palestinian demonstrators who walked in front of the first float at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Lake Avenue.

The parade resumed about 10 minutes later after the protestors dispersed, according to Pasadena City spokesperson Lisa Derderian.

Law enforcement had a heavy presence in the area.

According to Lt. Monica Cuellar, there were no arrests or citations issued.

The City of Pasadena routinely collaborates with numerous law enforcement and emergency organizations for the Rose Parade, a high-level event that triggers support from federal agencies in security planning.

“We planned for a worst-case scenario but hoped for a beautiful, peaceful parade and game,” Derderian said. The preparation was based on current trends and intelligence information from federal, state, and local agencies.

Protesters advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza have twice disrupted traffic in recent weeks at Los Angeles International Airport, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to intervene.
