On the heels of last month’s announcement that the 132nd Rose Parade will not take place on New Year’s Day due to the pandemic, The Tournament of Roses has announced that many of the plans made for the celebration, including the theme, bands, floats and other entries, will be brought back for the 2022 parade.

The theme chosen for 2021, “Dream. Believe. Achieve,” will return next year, the Tournament of Roses said in a written statement.

“Bands that were selected to march in 2021 have been invited to participate in the 2022 Rose Parade and Bandfest. Floats that intended to roll down Colorado Boulevard this upcoming January 1 have been welcomed to join us in 2022. Equestrian units were in the application process and interested groups can apply next year,” according to the statement.

Plans regarding the 2021 Rose Queen and Royal Court had yet to be announced.

The Rose Parade Executive Committee, including President Bob Miller, will remain in their current positions for the 2022 events, Tournament of Roses officials said.

Executive Committee members generally rotate each year. The change was enacted through bylaw amendments made by the Tournament of Roses Association Board of Directors, officials said.

“Beyond this rollover decision, we had already decided that all of our volunteers, from our newest members up to the Executive Committee, would maintain their same 2021 assignments for the 2022 Parade and Game,” Miller said.

“My family and I are grateful for the decision of the Board of Directors and on January 1, 2022, we look forward to celebrating the new year with the hundreds of thousands of people who line the parade route and millions around the country and throughout the world who view the parade on television, online and social media,” Miller said. “We hope everyone remains safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.”

The normal rotation was expected to resume in the 2022-2023 parade year.

Meanwhile, the Tournament of Roses was planning an alternative celebration to ring in the coming New Year.

“Plans are underway for a reimagined America’s New Year Celebration in 2021,” the Tournament of Roses statement said. “We’re working in conjunction with our broadcast partners and sponsors and will announce a celebration with safe ways for those across the country and around the world to celebrate.”
