Run of Decreases to Average Southland Gas Prices Stops, Reverses

The run of five decreases in six days to the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County totaling 2.3 cents ended Friday with an increase of two-tenths of a cent to $5.372.

The average price is 2.1 cents less than one week ago, but 32.6 cents more than one month ago and 45.2 cents higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.122 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price resumed decreasing, dropping one-tenth of a cent to $5.296, one day after a seven-day streak of decreases totaling 5.4 cents ended when it increased two-tenths of a cent. It is 4.5 cents less than one week ago, but 29.4 cents more than one month ago and 40.8 cents higher than one year ago.

The Orange County average price has dropped $1.163 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

A run of five decreases in six days to the national average price totaling 2.1 cents ended with an increase of two-tenths of a cent to $3.66. It is 1.9 cents less than one week ago, 12.7 cents more than one month ago, and 1.4 cents higher than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.356 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“Domestic gas demand is pretty pokey at the moment, which is often the case in the runup to Memorial Day and the traditional start of summer driving season,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager.

“The recent national average price of  $3.67 could be the peak until hurricane season is well underway. But as always, the wildcard will be the cost of oil, so stay tuned.”
