Schiff Backs Obama

Local Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) has responded to President Obama’s State of the Union address tonight by issuing a statement of support.

In his remarks, Schiff wrote that “President Obama set forth a responsible path to renew America’s economy and preserve the American dream for our children and grandchildren. I know that election-year politics will make compromise difficult, but the recovery is still fragile and the American people cannot afford another idle year from Congress when there are millions of workers without jobs and families are hanging onto their homes by a thread.

“As the President said,” Schiff continued, “we must work to reduce our budget deficit and national debt – both through responsible spending cuts and by asking those who have prospered most over the last decade to help by paying a little more.”

“While our nation emerges from the depths of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, I continue to believe that now is the time to lay the foundation for sustained economic growth and a widening circle of prosperity by revitalizing American manufacturing, pursuing energy independence and investing more in the education and training of American workers,” Schiff said.
