Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Pasadena) released a video on Tuesday urging all Angelenos to wear masks in public in order to slow the spread of coronavirus and save lives.

The public service announcement, which highlights new data on rising Coronavirus infections in people under age 35, features videos of young people throughout California’s 28th District explaining why they wear masks and practice social distancing.

“This pandemic is not over,” Schiff said in the video. “It is not over. And when we act like it is, we endanger the lives of everyone around us. Wearing a mask and social distancing are the best ways to keep you safe, your family safe, and members of your community safe – and ensure that we can reopen our economy sooner. Simply put, masks work. Masks save lives. If we want to beat this virus, Americans need to get serious about wearing masks whenever we’re out in public.”

Across the country, states are experiencing a surge in new coronavirus cases, especially among young people. In California, people under the age of 35 make up nearly half of new COVID-19 cases. According to public health experts, wearing a mask can significantly reduce the transmission of coronavirus between individuals.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 2,593 new detected infections and 13 new deaths on Monday. The county has seen 136,129 COVID-19 cases and 3,822 deaths, in all as of Monday.

In Pasadena, health officials reported 27 new infections and no new deaths on Monday, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

The city has recorded 1,544 COVID-19 cases in all, and 100 deaths. Fifty-four COVID-19 patients were being treated at Huntington Hospital, according to hospital data.
