School Teachers, Public Invited to Virtual Workshop to Learn About Mars 2020 Mission, Perseverance Rover

Scientists at Pasadena’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are hosting an online workshop Tuesday afternoon to explain their work on the upcoming NASA’s Mars 2020 mission,tentatively set to launch late this month, and its groundbreaking robotic explorer, the Perseverance rover.

The online gathering, meant for both formal and informal educators but open to all, is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be viewed online at www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/teaching-space.

“In this one-hour live workshop, we’ll get an in-depth look at how Perseverance will explore the science of Mars, building on our understanding of the Red Planet and preparing for future human missions,” JPL said in a written statement. Participants will have the opportunity to “Ask questions of mission team members and find out how to share the excitement with students during this virtual education workshop from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.”

Speakers are to include JPL systems engineer Christina Hernandez, who worked on the Perseverance rover’s Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry device,
