A routine traffic stop on July 9 resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old Los Angeles man who was carrying $116,000 and nearly three pounds of marijuana in the trunk of his car.

On Wednesday, July 9, 2019 at approximately 1 A.M., a South Pasadena Police Officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the 1100 block of Huntington Drive.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he immediately smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer asked the driver (who was the sole occupant) about the smell and the driver admitted to smoking marijuana while driving the vehicle.

The driver was removed from the vehicle and was interviewed by the officer. He was asked about any additional marijuana in the vehicle and he admitted to possessing “a few pounds,” which were located inside the trunk. Officers gained consent to retrieve the marijuana from the trunk.

Officers found almost three pounds of marijuana and $116,000 in U.S. currency. The subject was unable to justify the large amounts of drugs and cash, and was arrested under suspicion of illegally transporting marijuana for sale. He was transported to the South Pasadena Police station jail.

Later that day, detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. Large amounts of marijuana and illegal firearms were seized at that location. The suspect is to be charged with multiple felonies.
