South Pasadena Police Sgt. Tony Abdalla Honoring Officer Kevin Sandoval By Cycling In The 2012 Police Unity Tour

The South Pasadena Police Department and South Pasadena Police Officers Association are proud to announce that Sgt. Tony Abdalla will be honoring SPPD Officer Kevin Sandoval and his family by riding in the 2012 Police Unity Tour.

On May 10th through the 12th, Sgt. Abdalla will be cycling alongside hundreds of other law enforcement officers from across the nation on a fully supported 3-day, 300 mile bike ride from Somerset, NJ to Washington, DC. The ride honors those police officers who have died in the line of duty and culminates with a candlelight vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial during National Police Week. “I’m truly honored and privileged to be able to participate in the 2012 Police Unity Tour in memory of Kevin and to honor his family,” said Sgt. Abdalla. “Kevin left us way too soon and the Tour is an amazing event that keeps his candle burning bright.”

Each rider participating in the Tour has a fundraising commitment of $1,800 with the donations going to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum. The fundraising commitment does not include equipment and logistical expenses. Tax deductible donations in Sgt. Abdalla’s name can be made through the web site of the Southern California Chapter of the Police Unity Tour at www.socalput.com. Donations to assist with Sgt. Abdalla’s equipment and logistical expenses can be made in his name in care of the South Pasadena Police Officers Association, 1422 Mission St., S. Pasadena, CA 91030. Any donation of any amount is greatly appreciated.

About Officer Kevin Sandoval

South Pasadena Police Officer Kevin Sandoval, 23, died in the line of duty during a training exercise at Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa, CA on June 14th, 2011. A 3-year veteran of the Department, Kevin will always be remembered as dedicated, compassionate and loyal to friends and family with a passion for his chosen vocation. Kevin exemplified all the qualities that make for an excellent police officer and he is greatly missed.

About the Police Unity Tour

The Police Unity Tour is an annual event started in 1997 where hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the nation bike ride in memory of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The primary purpose of the Tour is to raise awareness of Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Museum in Washington, DC. Over 1300 law enforcement officers from across the country participated in the 2011 event and raised $1.5 million in donations. The Tour’s inspiration and motto is, “We Ride For Those Who Died.”

About Sergeant Tony Abdalla

Sgt. Abdalla is a 22-year veteran of the South Pasadena Police Department and is presently assigned as an Operations Watch Commander. Sgt. Abdalla was raised in South Pasadena and attended elementary, middle and high school in town. Sgt. Abdalla is an avid cyclist and is married with two young children.
