Spice Up Your Holiday Palate With Mijares Tamales

Published on Monday, November 25, 2013 | 12:50 pm

This is Southern California. With the warmer-than-the-rest-of-the-country sunshiny holiday weather, let’s keep up our local frontier traditions and do fresh and spicy Mexican cuisine this season.

So what are the newest ideas coming out the kitchen at Pasadena’s oldest Mexican restaurant, Mijares?

After being voted once again the Best Mexican Food and Best Margaritas winner in Pasadena its long-time loyal patrons, Mijares Mexican Restaurant is stepping to offer special holiday treats to give  celebrations a little more spice.

Make sure to get some of Chef Campos’ delicious tamales. This year, Sweet Corn and Chicken Mole Tamales has been added to the menu, while the Roasted Poblano Chile Cheese, Chicken Vegetable, and Traditional Pork Red Chile Tamales remain steady favorites. Lard-free and made in the stone grinder, or Molino, for added authenticity, Mijares’ tamales are easy to freeze and can be ordered by the dozen.

If planning to throw a party for family and friends, make it extra special by adding Mijares’ holiday food with family platters and a delicious catering menu.

You can choose to host sit-down dinners, appetizer buffets, taco/tostada buffet, buffet Mexicano, or buffet “Tradicional.” Read the complete catering menu here: http://www.mijaresrestaurant.com/downloads/BanquetMenu2013.PDF.

When  need to unwind during the holiday season, Mijares’ happy hours run from Mondays through Thursdays, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with complimentary appetizers and drink specials. Thursdays, you get $2 soft tacos and drink specials too!

Also, be sure to check out Mijares’ Partida Skinny Margarita, made with Partida Blanco tequila, agave nectar, and fresh squeezed lime juice, for a refreshing and low calorie drink.

If  love tacos and can’t wait for Thursday’s happy hour to have one, check out $2 Taco Tuesdays at the 1806 E. Washington Blvd. location at Allen Ave.
