Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has added his name to the list of public officials who support Jim McDonnell for L.A. County Sheriff.

“Chief Jim McDonnell is a strong leader committed to putting public safety first,” Antonovich said. “He has a long and impressive track record in law enforcement and is committed to making our communities safer. He will be a superb sheriff for Los Angeles County.”

McDonnell, who has served as Chief of the Long Beach Police Department since 2010 and served as the second in command in the Los Angeles Police Department, announced his candidacy in mid-January.

“I’m proud to be supported by Supervisor Mike Antonovich – a leader who understands the needs, challenges and vitally important work of law enforcement,” McDonnell said while noting Antonovich’s 32 years of service as a Reserve Police Officer. “I look forward to working with him to bring greater accountability to the Sheriff’s Department, leading to safer communities in all parts of the County.”

McDonnell is also supported by the L.A. County Police Chiefs Association, California Peace Officers Association, District Attorney Jackie Lacey, former District Attorney Steve Cooley and dozens of other law enforcement leaders.
