Nearly one hundred friends and supporters of the Future Stars basketball camp gathered at the Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga last week to participate in the camp’s ninth annual Future Sports Charity Golf Tournament.

As camp owner/director Eszylfie Taylor described the event, “This tournament pays for the whole camp week, and that includes counselors and staff, and the meals.”

Nearly 60% of the camp’s participants take advantage of the camp’s scholarship program, said Taylor, who added, “The event has grown each year we’ve done it, and to me, this is what owning a local business is about. I’ve been fortunate enough to be successful in my business, and that means giving back to this community.”

The tournament also featured putting and distance competitions.

Taylor, who owns Taylor Insurance and Financial Services, grew up in the Pasadena area before going on to a successful college basketball career at Concordia University.
Among the participants and supporters were Jersey Mike’s subs, and Loudmouth.com, which helped organize the event.

This year’s Future Stars Basketball Camp will be held August 4th-8th from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is open to boys and girls in K-5th grade and 6th-12th grade.

The camp will focus on offensive and defensive fundamentals to improve each camper’s individual game, and will be conducted at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena. The cost is $200 per camper, with a $50 discount before June 1, 2014. Campers will compete in shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, and five-on-five games .
