The Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in partnership with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation, invites the community to attend their Scholarship Jazz Brunch on Saturday, May 11. The event will recognize three outstanding individuals for their remarkable contributions to the community: Larry E. Campbell, Ph.D. (First A.M.E Church, Pasadena), Brenda Harvey-Williams (City of Pasadena), and Nancy Gonzalez, Ph.D. (John Muir High School).

In addition to honoring community leaders, the Scholarship Jazz Brunch will celebrate the achievements of twelve exceptional scholarship recipients who have demonstrated dedication to their academic pursuits and community involvement. The recipients include Asha Bailey, Eloheem Mahone, Ethan Allen, Gabrielle White, Jae’da Reed, Jae’la Reed, Kennedy Mitchell-Egbo, Kimberly Robinson, Lauren Gray, Megan Milton, Mia Walker, and Skye Correy.

The event, which will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Le Meridien Hotel in Arcadia, California, promises an enjoyable celebration featuring live jazz performances and delicious cuisine.

Attendees will have the opportunity to further support the sorority’s work in the community, which includes providing vital opportunities for youth and empowering them to pursue their dreams.

Since its chartering in 1960, the Pasadena Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has provided scholarships to college-bound seniors. In 2015, the chapter began partnering with the Pasadena/Altadena Ivy Foundation to enhance their impact through both programs and scholarships. Together, the organizations have awarded over $350,000 in scholarships and continue to make a difference in the community through initiatives such as the Child Hunger Initiative (CHIPP), which provides healthy snacks to the Pasadena Boys and Girls Club weekly.

The sorority and foundation also sponsor the Annual Career STEAMposium, support a Young Authors Reading Program, and provide women’s hygiene supplies to a women’s shelter, among other community-focused efforts.

The Scholarship Jazz Brunch serves as an important fundraising event, with ticket purchases directly supporting scholarships for students in need in the San Gabriel Valley and programs that positively impact the community.
