Third Phase of MorningStar Senior Living Project Set to Go Before Design Commission Special Meeting Tuesday

Pasadena’s Design Commission will deliberate Tuesday on a proposal to build a new five-story, 76-unit, independent living facility for seniors at 995 S. Fair Oaks Ave.

The Design Commission is holding a special meeting Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.

In March, MorningStar Senior Living, a company which owns, builds, and operates senior housing facilities in the western United States, was reported to be looking to expand on one of its existing properties in the City of Pasadena, dubbed MorningStar Senior Living of Pasadena, whose first and second phases were completed in 2003 and 2008.

A report submitted at that time to the Design Commission described the five-story project as rising from a roughly 20,800-square-foot corner lot, with plans calling for demolition of the existing improvements, including a small office building and a warehouse. Plans also called for a subterranean parking garage.

This new project would represent the third and final phase of MorningStar Senior Living. It is now in the Final Design Review phase of the City’s approval process.

The Department of Planning and Community Development said it was recommending approval of the application for Final Design Review, subject to conditions that will be reviewed and approved before issuance of a building permit.
