Three High-Profile Killings Back in Pasadena Courts This Week

This week, three high-profile Pasadena criminal cases will move forward in the Pasadena Courthouse of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Here’s a profile of each of these cases:

Wednesday, June 8, 8:30 a.m. Preliminary Hearing Date Setting for Oscar Munoz-Luna

Oscar Munoz-Luna, 26, is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI in connection with a crash in Pasadena on Feb. 18 that killed one of his two passengers.

According to the Pasadena Police Department, the victim, 55 years old, was a passenger in a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Munoz-Luna that was eastbound on Washington Place at about 9:30 p.m. when it struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. The victim was rushed to a hospital where he died.

Munoz-Luna remains in custody.

The hearing will be at Dept. D of the Pasadena Courthouse.

Thursday, June 9, 8:30 a.m. Pretrial Hearing for Lamarr Marquise McDaniels II and Trevor Dorman

Lamarr Marquise McDaniels II, 27, and Trevor Dorman, 22, both of Monrovia, are accused of killing a man in Pasadena on Aug. 9, 2019, in what authorities believe was a drug deal gone bad.

That day, Pasadena police officers responded to reports of a shooting incident in the 100 block of Painter Street and found the victim, 24-year-old Anthony Michael Tafoya Ortiz, suffering from a gunshot wound. Ortiz was transported to a local hospital in grave condition and died two days later.

McDaniels was arrested in Monrovia one day after the incident. Dorman was arrested in Covina less than a week later.

The hearing will be at Dept. E of the Pasadena Courthouse.

Thursday, June 9, 8:30 a.m. Preliminary Hearing Date Setting for Cecilio Hernandez

Cecilio Hernandez, 24, of Pasadena, is charged along with a 16-year-old boy in a shooting in Pasadena that left one man dead and another critically wounded.

The incident happened on Oct. 25, 2021 in the 1000 block of Summit Ave. The victim, identified as Jamal Patterson, 24, died at a hospital three days after the crime from a gunshot wound to the head.

Hernandez faces one count of murder along with one count each of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is in custody, with bail set at $5.1 million.

The hearing will be at Dept. H of the Pasadena Courthouse.
