Three Major Crime Cases Go to Court in Pasadena This Week

This week, three Pasadena-related court cases are scheduled to forward in the Pasadena Courthouse of the Los Angeles Country Superior Court. Here’s a profile of each of these cases.

Monday, Jan. 30, 8:30 a.m. Preliminary Hearing Date Setting for Sadarius Lawson

Sadarius Lawson, 27, of Los Angeles, is charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of a homeless man in Pasadena on the night of Aug. 12, 2022.

The incident happened around 10:55 p.m. on the 600 block of North Lake Avenue, according to the Pasadena Police Department. Police responding to calls found a man in the street suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers arrested the suspect near the scene within minutes of the incident. Lawson has been in custody ever since. Bail is set at $2 million.

The hearing will be at Dept. H of the Pasadena Courthouse.

Tuesday, Jan. 31, 8:30 a.m. Further Proceedings for Jose Antonio Santiago

Jose Antonio Santiago, 70, of Pasadena, is charged with murder in connection fatally stabbing one man and attempted murder for allegedly injuring another man in Pasadena in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, 2018.

The complaint alleges that the accused personally used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury on the victim, Jerry Chan, 42, who was stabbed to death in the 2600 block of Colorado Boulevard at about 1:30 a.m.

Santiago is also accused of the attempted murder of Dan Trevino, 32. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Oct. 18, 2018, and is currently in custody, with bail set at $3.02 million.

The trial will be held in Dept. B of the Pasadena Courthouse.

Wednesday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m. Preliminary Hearing Date Setting for Carolina Hernandez

Carolina Hernandez, 40, is charged with murder in connection with the death of another woman in Pasadena three days before Christmas. The murder count includes an allegation that Hernandez “engaged in violent conduct… that indicates a serious danger to society,” according to the criminal complaint.

The incident happened on Dec. 22, 2022 and resulted in the killing of Corina Monroy, 60. 

Hernandez remains in custody, with bail set at $2 million.

The hearing will be at Dept. H of the Pasadena Courthouse.
