Tournament of Roses Foundation Names Nancy Neal Davis President

The Tournament of Roses® Foundation has elected Nancy Neal Davis as its new president. In addition, Tournament of Roses Association members Gerald Freeny and Karen Palmersheim will join the board, as will Norma Garcia Kachigian and Jerri Price-Gaines.

Outgoing president Jacqueline Howard remains on the board, as do Dave Davis, Mike Hagedorn, Lance Tibbet and Mike Ward. Katherine Martinez Kleine and Ciran Hadjian will continue as Vice President and Treasurer, respectively. Maxine Harris, elected to the Board in 2012, was named Secretary.

Nancy Neal Davis was first appointed to the Tournament of Roses Foundation Board in 2009, was elected Secretary in 2011 and has served as Chair of its Development Committee.

She is President of Davis Associates Inc., a consulting firm that helps empower non-profit organizations to achieve strategic growth. She also guides individuals and families about philanthropic intent, creating foundations and responsible giving. In addition to volunteering on the Tournament of Roses Foundation Board, Davis is a volunteer at Union Station and the Pasadena Senior Center.

She has served on the boards of the Pacific Asia Museum, the Braille Institute, Friends of Levitt Pavilion, Pasadena City College Foundation and Overseers of the Los Angeles Music Center. Other community activity has included serving as a faculty member for the National Society of Fund Raising Professionals, patron committee member for Americans for the Arts, task force member for the Los Angeles Arts Endowment, and member of the South Lake Business Association and the Pasadena Playhouse District Association.

Davis is a lifelong Pasadena resident. She is a graduate of Westridge School and holds a bachelor’s degree from Principia College in Illinois.

Freeny has been a volunteer member of the Tournament since 1988 and will serve as its president for the 2019 Tournament of Roses. He currently chairs the Tournament’s Audit Committee and is vice-chair of its Business Development Committee. His other community involvement has included the Pasadena Police Foundation Board, Pasadena Police Citizens Academy, Pasadena Rose Bowl Aquatics Boards, Pasadena YMCA Board, University Club, Urban League Board of Governors and the Pasadena NAACP. Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Freeny attended Pasadena Christian School and John Muir High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance from California State University, Los Angeles, and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Freeny is employed by the state of California.

Palmersheim has been a volunteer member of the Tournament since 2006 and is currently serving on its Float Construction Committee. She is a business and health care trial attorney with the international law firm of Locke Lord LLP. Palmersheim is also a faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, serves on the California State Bar Health Care Committee and regularly speaks on new developments in health care law. She serves on the board of the Barlow Respiratory Hospital Foundation, is a former chair of the Redstone Foundation for Ageless Living and a former board member of Leadership Pasadena.

Kachigian is a registered nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Huntington Memorial Hospital, where she has worked for the past 25 years. Born and raised in El Sereno, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from California State University, Los Angeles, and received her nursing degree from Pasadena City College. Kachigian has served on the board of El Centro de Accion Social, including two terms as president. She is currently vice president for the Museum of Social Justice and serves on the advisory board for Star Entertainment and Education Group, whose mission is to bring high caliber Mexican and Latino cultural programming to Los Angeles.

The Tournament of Roses Foundation is a tax exempt, non-profit public benefit corporation established in 1983 to receive and manage contributions from the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, its supporters, and the general public. The Foundation supports charities in the Pasadena area by funding sports and recreation, visual and performing arts, and volunteer motivation and leadership development. The thirteen member board of directors is made up of community leaders and Tournament members, appointed by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association.
