A routine traffic stop in Pasadena on Friday resulted in the seizure of an unserialized “ghost gun” and the arrest of a parolee, authorities said.
Officers stopped a car for a traffic violation about 11:10 a.m. along Fair Oaks Avenue, just north of Tremont Street, Pasadena police Lt. Marcia Taglioretti said.
They soon discovered the driver and lone occupant of the car, identified as 27-year-old Darquan Drevon Hannah of Ontario, was on parole due to a previous criminal conviction, according to police and Los Angeles County booking records.
A search of his car revealed a loaded, .40-caliber unserialized handgun, commonly known as a “ghost gun,” according to the lieutenant.
Hannah was arrested on suspicion of violating the terms of his parole and weapon-related offenses, Taglioretti said.
Prior convictions include assault with a deadly weapon and burglary in 2016, according to L.A. County Superior Court records.
In the assault case, police said he attempted to run over another man with whom he had an ongoing dispute with a car along Orange Grove Boulevard, but missed, the Pasadena Star-News reported at the time. He then crashed his vehicle into another car and fled the scene before being apprehended.
Hannah ultimately pleaded ‘no contest’ to an assault with a deadly weapon charge, according to court records. A charge of attempted murder was dismissed.
Hannah also had another pending criminal case resulting from an alleged hit-and-run that took place on Feb. 9, records show. He was released after posting bail three days later.
Hannah was being held without bail Saturday pending a court appearance.
