A trailer truck caught fire on Foothill (210) Freeway Thursday afternoon causing heavy traffic as firefighters tried to control the fire and police cordoned off the area to prevent any injuries to passersby.

Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said heavy smoke billowed into the sky after the truck went ablaze for still unknown reasons.

The incident occurred along westbound lanes of the 210 near the Madre Street exit that caused heavy traffic for more than two hours.

No one was reported injured in the incident, Derderian said.

Firefighters tried to control the fire for about 45 minutes before calling a “fire out.” Workers from Caltrans assisted authorities in cleaning up leaked fuel coming from the burnt out truck.

California Highway Patrol officers also arrived at the scene and are now investigating the cause of the fire.
