A man who broke into the South Pasadena home of his estranged girlfriend and attacked her was fatally stabbed and beaten with a golf club by the mother and adult sister of the domestic violence victim on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The violence unfolded about 10 a.m. in the 500 block of Five Oaks Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators determined a man in his 40s had forced his way into the home and attacked his estranged girlfriend, Deputy Shawn Du Busky of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement.

“While the suspect was in the process of beating and choking the female victim, her mother and adult sister came to her aid,” according to the deputy. “During the struggle, the suspect was stabbed and beaten with a golf club.”

South Pasadena Police Department officers responding to reports of a domestic violence incident arrived to find the front window of the home shattered and heard the sound of women screaming inside, Du Busky said.

The officers made their way into the home through the broken window and encountered the man, who has been stabbed and beaten, officials said.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The woman who was attacked by the man was treated for facial injuries and released from hospital care later in the day, sheriff’s officials said.

The identity of the dead man was not released.

No further details were available.
