U.S. Department of Education Awards Caltech $2.3 Million to Help Students Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic

As part of a federal program to aid institutions of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Education recently awarded Caltech almost $2.3 million, half of which will be given as grants to students facing significant challenges related to the disease, and the other half will help support the Institute’s COVID-19 remediation programs.

Caltech received its award from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) on August 18 and is in the process of determining the number of students eligible to receive HEERF III grants. Per Department of Education guidance, Caltech will ensure domestic undergraduate students with exceptional need are prioritized in the allocation of funds. Grants to eligible students will range from $1,000 to $4,000.

There is no application process; students will be notified via email during fall term 2021 of their eligibility for a HEERF III grant and given instructions on how and when they will receive the funds.
