The UCLA Bruins, fresh from a blowout victory over Bowling Green, will play another home game Saturday, Sept. 10, against the Alabama State Hornets, which recently managed an eight-point win against Miles College.

Saturday will be the first time UCLA will play against a historically Black university and a program from outside the Football Bowl Subdivision, reported the Associated Press.

As for predictions, SportsChat says the Bruins, being impressive on both sides of the ball versus Bowling Green, would most probably score their second win in the season, although some issues – the nine penalties and two turnovers – need to be cleaned up.

Alabama State didn’t exactly overpower Miles College last time, and SportsChat doesn’t expect the Hornets to stay in range for long, come Saturday.

Picks and Parlays also predicts a UCLA win.

“An HBCU playing UCLA in the Rose Bowl is a great story, but don’t expect this to be much of a contest,” they write. “The Bruins defense should have little trouble stopping the Hornets offense, especially if the Hornets fail to hang on to the ball. Alabama State committed six turnovers, including five fumbles, against Miles.”

Sam Connon, Publisher and Managing Editor at Sports Illustrated for the All Bruins section, says UCLA will have no problems with Alabama State.

“Before this season, UCLA had never scheduled a game against a non-FBS opponent. They broke that streak by adding Alabama State to the slate when Michigan backed out, bringing in an FCS HBCU that hasn’t had a winning season since 2015. As a result, the Bruins built in another easy win for themselves,” Connon wrote.

Kickoff on Saturday is at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.

Although attendance last Saturday was at an all-time low – UCLA announced an attendance of 27,143 –  mainly because of the hot weather, Coach Chip Kelly was thankful for the fans that did show up at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 3 for the first game.

“It was the hottest game I’ve ever had an opportunity to coach in and the fact that they were there was a tribute to them and hats off to them,” Kelly said before Monday morning practice. “We can’t control the weather, but I want to thank the ones that did show up because that was not a fun place to be,” reported Sports Illustrated

Thankfully, this weekend is predicted to be not as hot, with a high of 84 and overcast skies, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The Bruins scored in every quarter last week for a 45-17 victory, with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson managing 298 yards with two scores, and a pick on 32-of-43 passing, while also rushing for 87 yards and two more scores. Zach Charbonnet added 111 rushing yards for his eighth 100-yard game with the Bruins.

UCLA has now won four straight games. The last time it had four straight victories was over the first four games of the 2015 season.

Eddie Robinson Jr. is coaching the Hornets. He was the Houston Oilers’ second-round pick in the 1992 NFL draft and has had an 11-year professional career with the Oilers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Oilers/Titans and Buffalo Bills.
