Underground rapper Phora remains in a Pasadena hospital after he was shot in the neck on the 210 Freeway early Tuesday morning. He was driving home with his girlfriend when they were shot at by an undetermined number of suspects they said were in a silver car.

Phora and the girlfriend, identified in her Instragram account as “dezyfilms,” were able to post accounts of the incident that happened around 12:30 a.m.

“Last night was one of the scariest nights of my life,” Phora wrote. “To clear the air, I was driving down the 210 Freeway in Pasadena with my girl, when a silver car pulled up and fired 3 shots into my car. I’m blessed to be alive. Dezy is blessed to be alive.”

Pasadena police Sergeant Victor Alaniz said earlier that Phora had been struck in the neck by gunfire. He was transported by

Pasadena Fire Department personnel to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

Lt. Kelly Evans said the woman suffered glass fragments in her arm but is otherwise unhurt.

Dezyfilms posted a photo of Phora lying in a hospital bed and wrote, “Please pray for him!!! He was in the car with me and shot in the back of the head with a .45 by someone in a silver Infiniti in Pasadena!!! Please pray for him and if you have any info call 911!!!”

“The bullet traveled from my shoulder through to my neck up towards the back of my head,” Phora continued in his social media post. “I was shot with a .45, and the bullet was stuck in the back of my head/neck just missing my spina…l chord, vertebrae, etc. where I could’ve been paralyzed for the rest of my life, or even dead.”

Phora ended his post with the message, “God has a plan for all of us. I believe mine is to make a difference in people’s lives. I stand for what I believe in, I will also fight for the greater good of my people, and I will die fighting to change this world. No matter what comes in my way, I will always stand for peace and love, no matter how much hatred and violence they try to bring me down with, they won’t stop me from fighting.”

To some of the posts expressing sympathy for him and his girlfriend, Phora replied, “Thank you so much… this means a lot to me, I needed this right now. God blessed me. Truly blessed me. I’m so thankful to be alive.”

Another tweet from a user identified as Fume the Loc said, “phoras a snitch bro. He had it coming.”

Phora has recently announced he is releasing a new rap album called “Angels with Broken Wings” on October 11th. He and his girlfriend are both Corona residents.

Police could not say for certain whether the rapper was targeted or if the shooting was random. Investigators have not identified a suspect and are currently interviewing witnesses.

Pasadena Police is calling on anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Department at (626) 744-4620 or (626) 744-4241.
