Waste Less Living, a Pasadena-based company specializing in zero-waste planning, food scraps recovery and composting services, recently celebrated the grand opening of a local vendor supported Eco-Boutique called Walnut located at 2104 East Walnut Street. Mayor Bill Bogaard, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paul Little and over 75 community members participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening.

Walnut is a store dedicated to supporting a “waste-less” lifestyle by providing products that are locally produced, locally made and locally sourced. Products include homemade bath and body products, reusable household goods like cloth napkins, reusable water bottles and compostable tableware. In addition, locally hand-crafted goods and other environmentally friendly products and services will also be available, including compost and gardening services. Workshops will be held every Friday that will cover topics such as composting, solar energy, trash talk, and growing organic vegetables to name a few. Summer store hours are Thursday-Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm.

“I am proud that Waste Less Living is able to open Walnut in our community,” said Christine Lenches-Hinkel, president of Waste Less Living. “It is important for me to share with the public that living a waste-less lifestyle is easy to do and Walnut can be a resource for learning about a waste-less lifestyle and buying local products.”

Waste Less Living, Inc. was conceived out of the notion that more can be done to divert waste from our landfills than just practicing the 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle. Up to two-thirds (2/3) of the waste we generate at home is material that is good for composting such as food waste and paper goods. As such, composting is a major yet underutilized system for not only managing the waste stream but also for healthier food production and a cleaner environment. Waste Less Living supports practices that conserve our natural resources, are sustainable and minimizes solid waste generation. Walnut offers the consumer practical and eco-friendly alternatives for every day sustainable living.
